Control Panel Monitor Energy Saving options
When you use Windows Control Panel to configure the screen saver,
then if your monitor supports it you can elect to use low-power or even
power-off the monitor after defined periods.
Unfortunately, since this saver continually reads files from disk and
carries out other tasks that make the PC think it's still being used, the
power saving features will normally never activate on your PC. Consequently,
the saver has been modified so that these features eventually work but
they will take twice as long as you specify in Control Panel if Classic Jensen
is the active screen saver.
What happens is:
-
At startup, the saver checks the period the energy saving is set to activate
after
-
When this period elapses, the saver goes into energy saving mode
- it stops reading from disk and instead uses up to 10 images that were
stored in memory while it was running normally. It also changes the screen
background colour to blue and disables any background image swapping.
The PCs energy saving period has now started counting properly from
Zero and should activate after the specified period has elapsed again.
Hence it takes twice as long as normal. You might want to shorten the period
to get round this.
